Capricorn Coast's feast of food

Follow a new trail to taste the best central Queensland produce.

A new opportunity to showcase the flavours of central Queensland has risen from the ashes of devastating bushfires two years ago.

Capricorn Enterprise and Livingstone Shire Council have launched the Taste Capricorn Coast food trail to support the region's growers and producers, highlighting the diverse local produce on offer across the region.

During November 2019, more than 6000ha of bush and farmland was burned near Yeppoon during a devastating bushfire season.

Many farmers had their lives and livelihoods turned upside down.

Taste Capricorn Coast was developed with the support of the Australian Government's Bushfire Recovery Initiative to promote the local flavours and array of producers, eateries, retail outlets, markets and farm experiences in the region.

The Taste Capricorn Coast trail features 46  businesses, including farm experiences, growers and makers, retails, and eateries.

Microgreens farmer Clancy Gillingham, from Sunbirds Farm, is among the 24 growers excited to join Taste Capricorn Coast.

“Being connected to my community and experiencing the joy people get from eating my microgreens has given me a sense of purpose,” Clancy said.

“The more people educated about our natural ecosystems and how to preserve them will enable us all to move forward in our capacity to sustain food supplies without compromising the earth.”

Taste Capricorn Coast encourages visitors and residents to tour, explore and stay in the region, providing opportunities to undertake farm tours, visit farm gate stalls, sample the produce and be educated in the nutritional, economic and taste benefits of consuming fresh produce.

Visitors and locals can follow the flavours and head off on a self-guided journey using the interactive maps featured on the Taste Capricorn Coast website

You can also choose to leave the foraging and prep to the professionals and sample the best of the region's produce in some of the most celebrated eateries along the Capricorn Coast.

Participating retail businesses and farm gates will display the Taste Capricorn Coast logo.
