Great destinations for your winter caravanning holiday
Travelling in winter is often cheaper, so get your caravan on the road in the cooler months.
Just because the weather is cooler doesn’t mean you can't enjoy yourself. A winter caravan trip is every bit as special, as you don’t have the heat of summer, but rather can enjoy the heat of a campfire instead. Caravan park and camping fees are generally also cheaper and tourist prices in retail stores fall in popular towns.
Here are two Queensland destinations and three interstate destinations to consider if you’re planning to get on the road to enjoy the cooler months.
Adventure Whitsunday Resort, Airlie Beach, Qld
The Big4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort is a stand-out at Airlie Beach. There is plenty of choice in terms of accommodation, with condos, cottages and villas on offer, as well as caravan and camping sites. It's family-friendly and facilities include a 32m lagoon pool, a 13-slide water park, adventure playgrounds, jumping pillows and mini-golf. There are shared BBQ facilities, too, which are ideal if you'd like to socialise with fellow travellers.
Cairns Coconut Holiday Resort
Opal Inn Caravan Park, Coober Pedy, SA
The Opal Inn Caravan Park is a popular place to stay for campers who visit Coober Pedy, in the heart of outback South Australia. It offers a mix of motel room options and a caravan park with powered sites and grassy camping areas.
BIG4 Beacon Resort, Queenscliff, VIC
Queenscliff on the Bellarine Peninsula is a popular holiday town. The BIG4 Beacon Resort is surrounded by a national marine park and is the ideal base to explore the nearby townships. Try Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale, local wineries, bike trails, the Sea Road Ferry and the Great Ocean Road.
The camping ground offers an indoor heated pool, indoor adventure playground and a children’s activity program. While the children are entertained, adults can relax with a yoga class or treat themselves to a massage or beauty treatment at the onsite Mud Day Spa.
Accommodation ranges from grassy sites for camping or caravans, through to two and three-bedroom villas and cabins.
Albany Gardens Holiday Park, Albany, WA
Whale season arrives on the west coast with the winter months and runs through to the end of October. Albany is one of the great places to catch the humpbacks cruising by during their annual migration.
Albany Gardens Holiday Park is a great site to park your wheels and set up a base. After a day of touring the region and watching whales, you rest up in the recreation area or try a spot of tennis. This is one of a number of parks in this area that cater for visitors to this popular destination.
