Kia’s large family-friendly SUV, the seven-seat Sorento, has just been given a mid-life spruce up. A ‘product enhancement’ in car company corporate speak.

Already well regarded by owners and motoring critics, and a recipient of car awards including Australia’s Best Cars gongs, these updates bring improvements over the outgoing model in key areas, plus some minor interior and exterior cosmetic changes.

Driveability has been enhanced courtesy of a new eight-speed auto, in lieu of the previous six-speed unit, while the V6 petrol engine increases capacity to 3.5-litres courtesy of an increase in its stroke. The R-series 2.2-litre turbo diesel carries over from the old model, albeit with lower fuel consumption. Revisions to steering and suspension deliver improved ride and handling also. Find out more about the powertrain and chassis.

Comfort and convenience features are updated with smart active cruise control new to all grades, while a one inch larger 8” touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (both with voice recognition), and DAB+ digital radio are also now standard on all grades. New to the standard navigation system is 10 years of SUNA live traffic updates and map-care.

SLi and flagship model, the GT-Line, now feature a 10-speaker Harman-Kardon audio system in lieu of the six-speaker system found in the other models.

A number of advanced active safety features have been added across the range, while the GT-Line also adds a 360-degree camera system and active LED headlights. Learn more about the active safety upgrades.

Exterior design changes are mild, but include revised front and rear bumpers, revised front and rear lamps, new dark-metallic finish on the grille, new alloy wheel deigns and finishes, and chrome exhaust tip (dual tips on GT-Line, single other models). There’s a choice of seven paint colours including a new Gravity Blue, in lieu of the deleted Sunset Red. Snow White Pearl is exclusive to GT-Line.

A new steering wheel, revised instrument cluster and climate control display, and some upgraded trims are among the interior changes.
