Thank you for running

RACQ members raise more than $500,000 for women with breast cancer.

More than 15,000 Queenslanders participated in the RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run (IWDFR) on 8 March, raising $1,039,247 for Mater Chicks in Pink.

More than 8000 of the runners and walkers were RACQ members who collectively raised $551,764 to assist people with breast cancer.

Mater Foundation Executive Director of Philanthropy Lesley Ray said the contribution of RACQ members was vital.

“It’s always amazing to see so many Queenslanders turn out to support women with breast cancer,” Ms Ray said.

“We’d like to thank the RACQ members who put in the effort to not only raise much-needed funds for Mater Chicks in Pink but to raise awareness of the impacts of breast cancer.

“Your support means so much to us, our patients and their families.”

RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said members’ efforts would make a difference to countless women’s lives.

“It’s really heart-warming to see such a strong response to this fundraiser from our members, and we’re looking forward to seeing the impact these donations will have,” Ms Ross said.

“Thanks to their generous donations, more people living with breast cancer will be able to access practical support services.”

Ms Ray said the money raised would help women with breast cancer throughout their diagnosis and treatment.

“The money raised will provide women with mastectomy bras and wigs so they can feel like themselves when going through treatment,” she said.

“We also provide programs such as counselling, house-cleaning services and art therapy which are tangible ways to support women while they undergo treatment.”
