Happy memories snapped during trip to Lawn Hill
Remote north-west Queensland national park a 'must-do'.
When Nancy Fitzgibbon looks at this photo, she can’t help but smile.
It was one of many she took while on a caravanning trip with her husband and a group of friends last June to Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park.
The keen caravanners from Brisbane, who are preparing for a move to Pelican Waters, had seen a lot of Australia but this was their first trip to the far north-west of the state.
“We went up there with a group of four couples and one friend who was on her own,” Nancy said.
“The guys left Brisbane and towed all our caravans up there and the ladies flew to Mount Isa (350km from Boodjamulla) where the guys picked us up.
“We have been to Cape York a couple of times and to Uluru a couple of times, so we are no strangers to dirt roads, but this was the first time we had been that far west (in north Queensland).”
RACQ members Nancy and her husband Rob have been caravanning for about 10 years and like to get off the beaten path.
“We found that it was a cheap way to have holidays as opposed to staying in hotels and eating out all the time,” she said.
“We generally go road tripping with at least one other couple. We try to organise one decent road trip a year.”
Nancy submitted this photo she took of friends paddling at Lawn Hill Gorge as an entry in RACQ’s 150 Must-Do’s in Queensland competition.

She said recalling the trip brought back lots of great memories of a time spent exploring a remote part of Queensland with friends.
“It was just a really fun trip. We would sit around campfire every night and talk and do camp-oven cooking,” Nancy said. “Every time I look back at those photos it puts a smile on my face.”
