Are you still trying to decide what you are going to do on New Year’s Eve? To help you celebrate the final hours of 2019 and welcome the new year amongst family and friends, we’ve listed the top events planned across the state.
South East Queensland
- Woodford Folk Festival
More than 2000 artists, musicians and performers will unite at Woodford from 27 December – 1 January for the annual Woodford Folk Festival. An estimated 132,000 people are expected to attend the six-day festival which will begin with the iconic Opening Ceremony and close with a spectacular Fire Event showcase on New Year’s Day.
- The Esplanade Mooloolaba
Head down to the Mooloolaba Esplanade from 4.30pm for a night filled with family activities. Enjoy roving street performers, face painting, food stalls and live music on the main stage. There will be two spectacular fireworks displays at 8.30pm and again at midnight.
- South Bank
The main fireworks display for New Year’s Eve will take place over South Bank and will be at 8.30pm and at midnight. The best viewing spots include from South Bank to the Clem Jones Promenade, Streets Beach and River Quay. Eagle Street Pier, Howard Smith Wharves and Portside Wharf will have a firework display firing from the Brisbane River at both 8.30pm and midnight. - Gold Coast
Be part of all the action at the New Year’s Carnival at Surfers Paradise Beach from 27 December- 1 January. Enjoy amusement rides, activities and attractions across the foreshore, live music and best of all – fireworks.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve at one of Townsville City Council’s beach parties. This year there will be three separate events including a celebration at Strand Park, Riverway and at Nelly Bay. Strand Park and Riverway events will include a movie on the big screen, food trucks and great local entertainment. There will also be fireworks displays at 9pm and midnight.
Kick start the new year at the BB Print New Year’s Eve River Party at Bluewater Quay. This year’s event offers plenty of family-friendly celebrations including delicious food, market stalls, activities for the kids and fireworks at 9pm and midnight over Pioneer River.
Far North Queensland
- Port Douglas
Celebrate the year that was in tropical Port Douglas. Work your way down Macrossan Street and listen to some live bands. Enjoy the night with family and friends at the famous Iron Bar, Paddy’s, Courthouse Restaurant, Rattle N’ Hum Bar or Marina then witness a spectacular firework display at 8.30pm and at midnight.
- Cairns Esplanade
Pack your camping chair, picnic blanket and esky with supplies and head down to the Cairns for the Crystalbrook Collection News Year’s Eve celebration on the esplanade. There will be family friendly activities available including live performances, food stalls and fireworks at 9pm and midnight.
