Steering towards a new path
The ARTIE Academy has given sisters Jay and Shonnie Cohen the confidence to succeed at RACQ.
When the phone call came for Shonnie to attend an interview for her current position as an Assistance Service Consultant at RACQ, she leapt at the opportunity.
It was all thanks to the relationship she had formed with her mentor during her time in the ARTIE Academy at school.
After struggling to find stability and motivation in other jobs, Shonnie is grateful the connection she made with her ARTIE mentor led to a new career path at RACQ.
“My ARTIE mentor didn’t forget about me, even though it had been five years since graduating high school, and one day he reached out to me with news of a job opening at RACQ,” Shonnie said.
The whole experience became even more enjoyable when her sister Jay joined RACQ shortly after.
Jay also learnt invaluable life lessons from her ARTIE mentor and achieved her goal of gaining her driver’s licence through the ARTIE Academy Driver Licensing program proudly supported by RACQ.
“The ARTIE program helped me a lot with confidence and with real-life skills,” Jay said.
“I always had the goal during my time at school to get my driver’s licence and it was great to have my ARTIE mentor beside me to help achieve my goal.”
Like her sister, Jay is proud of the work she does in her role as an Assistance Service Consultant at RACQ as it allows her to help members in their time of need.
“In this role we receive a lot of calls where someone is quite distressed or sometimes crying, while stuck on the side of a motorway and you can hear how stressed they are in their voice,” Jay said.
“When you let them know help is coming it feels so rewarding to hear how relieved they are.”
Although both girls are only at the beginning of this new career journey, they already have ambitions to grow within RACQ.
“I really want to continue learning and eventually would love to pursue other job opportunities on offer at RACQ,” Jay said.
“I’ve heard great stories from colleagues about working at RACQ and our manager has been here for 29 years so I can definitely see the potential to grow here,” Shonnie said.
