RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said it wasn’t too late to start saving to make the holiday season a little less stressful.

“It’s been a tough couple of years for many Queenslanders, and we don’t want the festive season to turn into another source of financial stress,” Ms Ross said.

“Take time now to look at your finances and what you’ll need to budget for, then make a plan to start setting aside small amounts regularly.

“There are also plenty of sales coming up where you can take advantage of discounts on items you might have on your list."

Ms Ross also urged Queenslanders not to spend beyond their means with 35 percent of those surveyed saying they felt like they needed to buy expensive gifts or gifts they had not budgeted for.

“If you’re concerned about your finances, consider having an honest conversation with your family and friends about your decision to tighten the budget,” she said.

“You can even try cutting expenses by making gifts or setting a limit on presents.

“The last thing you want to be doing is putting purchases on credit, as this can cost you a lot more in the long run. Remember if you can’t afford to pay for it now, how will you pay for it later.”
