The Club’s inaugural Safer Pathways Survey revealed the most frustrating pathway for local residents was a corridor running along East Creek from Rangeville into Toowoomba’s CBD.

RACQ Transport Planning and Infrastructure Advisor Tim Mitchell said the issues raised included lack of accessibility to crossing points at intersecting roads.

“This pathway corridor is nominated as a priority route in the State Government’s Principal Cycle Network Plan, however we think work needs to be accelerated,” Mr Mitchell said.

“This pathway is clearly valued and used by residents and there needs to be a higher priority to improve it.

“The most common problem highlighted by residents was the lack of safe road crossings along the corridor. They also said some of the paths were too narrow, steep, close to traffic or were impeded by barriers,” Mr Mitchell said.

RACQ said ‘active infrastructure’ is more in demand, with the increasing number of Queenslanders walking or using e-scooters, e-bikes, and cycling.

This highlights the importance of having pathway networks that are safe, connected, and accessible for the whole community.

These survey results have been forwarded to councils and the State Government in a bid to improve Queensland’s active transport networks.
