Stadium revamp to close major roads

News
RACQ has warned motorists to be prepared for road changes as roof repairs at the Gabba stadium would close inner city streets and cause major disruptions to traffic this weekend.

Club spokesperson Lauren Ritchie said Stanley Street at Woolloongabba between Wellington Road and Jurgens Street would be closed to all traffic between 4am and 7pm on Saturday and Sunday.

“The Gabba is undergoing some major roof repairs, meaning the stadium’s surrounding streets need to be closed to allow machinery to safely access the site,” Ms Ritchie said.

“Part of Stanley Street will be closed to all traffic in both directions and will likely cause delays, so drivers should avoid the area and use an alternative route.”

Meanwhile, Ms Ritchie said there would also be traffic delays on Friday night around Lang Park.

“Around Paddington there’ll be changed traffic conditions tonight due to the Queensland Red’s rugby union match which kicks off at around 7pm,” she said.

“Roads around the stadium will be closed for two hours before and after the event and there’ll be parking restrictions in place too.

“It’s always best to check road conditions online before setting out on your journey so you can plan ahead and allow extra time if necessary,” she said.
