Want to make your furry friend famous? The RACQ Pet Search is back and this year, it’s bigger than ever.

We’ve got over $15,000 worth of prizes up for grabs and it’s all going to the pets with the best ‘pawsonality’ in Queensland. Whether they’re up to mischief or just looking cute, we want to see your four-legged friend’s personality shine through.

The 2018 RACQ Pet Search will be running from June – August and like last time, it’s dog vs cat again on which pet will reign supreme.

Will a devoted dog be victorious? Or will a friendly feline take out the prize?

Our animal admiring panel will choose 11 minor prize finalists with the Queensland public picking one people’s choice winner. From these 12 pets, the public will choose just one who’ll be crowned our major prize winner. All finalists and winners will take home a cash prize, a sought-after spot in the 2019 RACQ calendar and a day with pats-a-plenty at their own professional photoshoot. Plus, with weekly prizes up for grabs there’s more ways your pet can win big.

Last year’s winner, Lord Leo, a tabby cat with a pretty face and purrfect personality relished his time in the spotlight.

You may have seen him gracing the front cover of our 2018 RACQ calendar. His owner took home a $5,000 eftpos gift card and professional snaps that will last a lifetime. With his time in the sun coming to an end, Leo’s ready to hand the crown over to the 2018 winner. Want to get a leg-up on the competition?

Know how to capture your pet’s good side with our top tips on getting the pawfect snap:

  1. We’re after your pet’s personality and a picture tells a thousand tails. Taking an action pic? Set your camera to a fast shutter speed and take your pick of the best shot. Show your pet doing what they love or what makes them that extra bit special.
  2. Too much or too little light can make an unflattering shot. Avoid too much light shining behind your pet as it can make your model too dark. Instead, opt for front-on light and turn off the flash or risk creepy pet eyes.
  3. Make your pet the focus of your photo. Eyes are the key to the soul so focus on your pets and bring your image to life.
  4. Traditional photos look best so avoid filters and special effects.

The 2019 RACQ calendar will be available for purchase from all RACQ stores, RACQ bank branches and through the Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) at the end of this year.

For the price of a gold coin donation you could own a calendar with your pet’s friendly face on it – plus with all proceeds going towards the AWLQ, you’re helping animals that still need a forever home.
This year, people’s choice voting opens on 4 June and will be announced, alongside our 11 minor prize winners, at the end of July. Voting for the major prize winner will run from 1 – 19 August with the winner announced at the end of August.

Think your dog or cat has what it takes? Upload a photo or video online and we’ll enter your pet in the 2018 RACQ Pet Search competition.

Terms and conditions apply. Visit www.racq.com/petsearch for details. Entries close 30 July 2018.
