Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Australian women (apart from non-melanoma skin cancer) and the second most common cancer to cause death in women*. Funds raised help Mater support women with breast cancer and research into the disease

Mater Foundation Executive Director Andrew Thomas said Mater Foundation recently purchased a $250,000 genetic analyser for Mater’s South Brisbane health campus with funds raised from last year’s event.

“Every runner, walker and supporter… has played a part in bringing this life-saving equipment to the Mater,” Mr Thomas said.

“Breast cancer is a devastating disease, but each year Mater is making new advances in its treatment because of the advanced research and improved technology that our supporters make possible.

“Every step in the RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run is a step towards beating breast cancer.”

Registrations for the Brisbane and regional Your Fun Run, Your Way events open on 24 January.

A Fun Run kit will be sent to registered participants, including a limited-edition Sea of Pink shirt to wear on the day.

Your Fun Run, Your Way attracted 3,400 participants last year, making up 56% of active fundraisers.

The Brisbane Fun Run starts at South Brisbane, finishes at the City Botanic Gardens and includes a crossing of Story Bridge.

RACQ has sponsored the International Women’s Day Fun Run for more than a decade, with the event raising a record $1.5 million in 2021.
