The Childers Festival is expected to attract visitors from across the country as it returns to showcase regional community spirit.
Childers will come to life with colour, food and festivities when its annual festival kicks off on Thursday 28 July until Sunday 31 July.
The town on the Bruce Highway, about four hours' drive north of Brisbane, will showcase its rich history, celebrate its multicultural roots and showcase the talent of local artisans as hundreds of market stalls line the streets on Sunday.
Bundaberg Regional Council Acting Mayor Bill Trevor said the Childers Festival was always a highlight for the Childers community and encouraged visitors to immerse themselves in the fun and flavour set to take place across the four days.
“This is always a fantastic long weekend that sees many visitors from around the country travel to Childers to enjoy the exclusive events and a fabulous atmosphere that is created by passionate locals showcasing the very best of what our local community has to offer,” Cr Trevor said.
“As part of the program, Crescent Street will transform into little Italy while the famous cane fire tours will light up the night and the wonderful Kate Ceberano performs at the heritage-listed Paragon Theatre.
“These four days provide the chance to see Childers in all its glory with behind-the-scenes events also on offer, including the much-anticipated Long Table Dinner at local winery Hill of Promise.”
Over the four days, visitors are also invited to celebrate the rich history and evolving community of Childers through a showcase of exclusive festival activities.
Whether it is taking a behind-the-scenes tour of the heritage-listed Paragon Theatre, enjoying an afternoon of music at Opera By The Lake with world-renowned tenor David De Vito and The Leading Men or enjoying the multicultural mass at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, there is sure to be something for everyone.
Food and drinks still remain a highlight of the program with events featuring a feast set amongst the ambience of a working winery with delightful cuisine perfectly matched with award-winning local wines.
This year, the heat will be turned up on festival day as attendees can register to take part in a new chilli wings eating competition.
The Childers Festival program is available here with tickets on sale from 1 June.
