Get ready to hit the Queensland Music Trails

Out and About

Outback, Scenic Rim and southern Queensland destinations will start the 2023 Queensland Music Trails schedule.

Queensland Music Trails' The Long Sunset in the Scenic Rim.

The first-of-its-kind music tourism experience, Queensland Music Trails, invites visitors to join the music adventure and discover the wonders of Queensland’s natural beauty.

The Trails range from one day to over two weeks long, featuring a broad musical style designed to reflect the host destination’s distinct geography.

QMF CEO & Creative Director Joel Edmondson said Queensland was ‘a vast, spectacular and diverse place’.

“Queensland Music Trails events will create powerful engagement with the community, culture, heritage and natural appeal of our places, so that the world can experience the beautiful truth of what Queensland is, has been, and will become,” Mr Edmondson said.

The Scenic Rim Trail (28–30 April) will see the return of boutique festival The Long Sunset, with performances from indie-pop favourites Lime Cordiale, Hatchie, Sycco, Tia Gostelow and many more artists to be announced.

Taking place in the lush surrounds of Elysian Fields, Canungra – traditional land of the Wangerriburra people – The Long Sunset will once again serve up Australia’s top acts and a basket full of local gourmet food and artisan goods as the sun slowly sets in the valley.

The Outback Trail includes four events and features a grazing plate of music styles, endless horizons, laid-back afternoons and small towns with big voices.

Oasis Afternoon (13 April), Light It Up at the Outback River Lights Festival (15 April), The Big Base Party (19–20 April) and The Sundowner (21 April) in St George, Cunnamulla, Charleville and Tambo will be graced by the likes of C.W. Stoneking & His Primitive Horn Orchestra, Karl S. Williams, Emma Donovan and the Putbacks, Harry James Angus, Hussy Hicks, Alice Skye, The Pacific Belles and Jem Cassar-Daley.

Musically minded Trail goers and locals are invited to join a travelling troubadour through the outback in On The Road.

The Barleyshakes Duo will delight all those with voices, instruments and stories to tell with performances and play-alongs at each Outback Trail event.

Showcasing the best the Western Downs region has to offer, the Southern Trail (5–7 May) will take you on a sophisticated meander through Big Sky country, set to a classical soundtrack offered by the well-loved Opera at Jimbour event.

Whether it’s opera in a mansion, horseback riding in the Bunyas or an intimate night of chamber music, this Trail will give you a taste of the refined life with performances from Opera Queensland and Ensemble Q, among many others.

Qld Music Trails are also proud to support the promotion of Opera Queensland’s Festival of Outback Opera from 18–21 May.
