Researchers want to hear from anyone impacted by flooding.

Flood Brisbane street 2022.

Queensland researchers are seeking people who were impacted by this year’s floods in Queensland and New South Wales to hear their experiences in a large-scale project led by Natural Hazards Research Australia.

QUT Professor Kim Johnston and Dr Anne Lane from the Faculty of Business and Law will work with USQ researcher Dr Barbara Ryan to collect Queenslanders experiences of the 2022 floods

“Our aim is to hear directly from anyone who was threatened by rising flood waters or inundated by the floods in southern Queensland,” Professor Johnston said.

“We want to understand their experiences and hear their stories about what they went through in the 2022 floods.

“The insights we gain will help to shape future flood preparedness and help to reduce future flood risks in our communities.

“People who want to participate and have their story of their flood experiences heard can take part in an interview with researchers in August and can also participate in a survey in September.

“We hope to hear a wide range of experiences from every flood-affected area in southern Queensland and the results will inform strategies to improve flood safety across Australia.”
