Who is APRA?
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) oversees banks, credit unions, building societies, general insurance and reinsurance companies, life insurance, private health insurance, friendly societies and most members of the superannuation industry. APRA is funded largely by the industries that it supervises, and was established on 1 July 1998.
Our APRA accreditation
RACQ Bank is an APRA accredited Authorised Deposit-taking Institution (ADI). ADIs are corporations which are authorised under the Banking Act 1959 and include:
- Building societies, and
- Credit unions.
All ADIs are subject to the same Prudential Standards but the use of the names 'bank', 'building society' and 'credit union' is subject to corporations meeting certain criteria. Learn more about APRA accreditation at apra.gov.au.
The Australian Government has guaranteed deposits up to $250,000 per depositor in ADIs, including RACQ Bank. This means that this money is guaranteed if anything happens to the ADI. For further information, visit the Australian Government website.
