Holden Omega Ute (2011)

by John Ewing,reviewed April 2011

With Commodore’s series II facelift, the Omega Ute now gets a 190 kW 3.0-litre direct petrol injection engine that’s E85 flexfuel capable, mated to a six-speed auto.

There’s also Holden’s new iQ infotainment system in the dash centre stack. Its 6.5” colour touch-screen allows easy control of functions including music, telephone and media such as iPod.

Unfortunately though, the base Ute is also $2000 dearer.

The Ute’s new engine is a solid enough performer and brings improved fuel efficiency. The auto is an improvement over the old four-speed but shift quality and strategies trail rival Falcon’s optional ZF six-speed auto.

Road holding is surprisingly competent for a tool-of-trade model, and there’s good safety features.
