Holden Sportswagon Berlina (2010)

by Barry Green,reviewed April 2010

Less is actually more with Holden’s VE 3.0-litre SIDI Sportwagon Berlina.

Although it has less capacity than the engine it replaces, the new Spark Ignition Direct Injection (SIDI) V6 is 10 kW more powerful and, importantly, better fuel and emissions efficient. Tipping the scales at the same weight (1800 kg) as before, the SIDI example claims an ADR combined cycle fuel figure of 9.6-litres/100 km, 1.1 better than the old wagon.

Driving through a new six-speed auto instead of the previous outdated four-speed unit, the 3.0-litre is a smooth and responsive unit, making for a superior drive. The downside is that it’s got less torque, 290 Nm instead of 330.
