Jaguar XJ Portfolio SWB 5.0 litre (2011)
by John Ewing,reviewed October 2011
The new XJ is the premier model in the current Jaguar range.
Those looking to savour the considerable pleasures of the 346kW supercharged V8 Portfolio version rather than its naturally-aspirated sibling (reviewed April/May 2011) will need an extra $36k. Still comparing numbers, it slices 1.2 seconds from its brother’s 400m sprint time, stopping our clocks at an impressive 13.3seconds.
The veritable torrent of performance on offer from the blown V8 feels immensely usable though, transferring to the road without fuss or brutal savagery.
With a cosseting ride, agile handling, powerful brakes, a standard equipment list to delight and pamper, and luxury cabin ambience, owners will feel like the cat that got the cream.
