Range Rover Vogue 3.0 TDV6 (2013)
by John Ewing,reviewed October 2013
The latest Range Rover, the fourth generation, offers revised powertrains, increased efficiency, a five-star ANCAP crash rating, plus a range of new technologies and features.
It’s also trimmed off around 460kg of flab and now gets an eight-speed auto as standard.
The new gearbox is smooth shifting and always offers up the right ratio, though manual shifting is possible via paddles or gear lever if desired.
The 3.0-litre turbo-diesel has a muscular feel, thanks to its stump-pulling torque making for robust performance.
It should make easy work of the ‘Rangie’s’ 3500kg towing capacity. Standard trailer sway control will also be appreciated by those who tow. Progressive body roll is quite evident through twists and turns, but for a large four-wheel drive it impresses for its grip and willingness to alter course. The cosseting ride afforded by the air suspension is superb, soaking up whatever bumps or lumps you throw at it, on or off road.
Range Rover’s well known and substantial off-road capability benefits from inclusion of the latest incarnation of Land Rover’s Terrain Response all-terrain system, now featuring an auto mode to select the most suitable of its five off-road programs for the conditions. The new model feels easy and relaxing to drive under any conditions. And the sense of luxury is enhanced by the vehicle’s refinement and quality finish.
