Renault Fluence Privilege (2011)
by Barry Green,reviewed June 2011
At nearly 2.7 metres long and 2.0 wide, Renault’s new Fluence sedan pushes the boundaries of the small car class.
Although it shares its major underpinnings with the Megane hatch, Fluence is in another dimension, especially by way of rear seat and boot space.
Available in Dynamique and up-spec Privilege models, Fluence is powered by normally-aspirated 2-litre 4-cylinder engine (putting out 103 kW of power and 195 Nm of torque) mated to a 6-speed manual or 6-step CVT.
Carrying 1369 kg (as in the Privilege with CVT), this makes for adequate rather than class-leading performance. The handling is without major vice and the ride composed. There are a few minor ergonomic niggles, such as poorly placed or fiddly to operate switchgear.
