Skoda Octavia Scout Premium (2011)

by John Ewing,reviewed October 2011

Only time will tell if a new higher specification model, the Scout Premium and the option of a self-shifting gearbox will, as the company hopes, be enough to reverse the under whelming sales performance of the Czech brand’s soft-roader.
Extra standard equipment on Premium includes a sunroof, leather/alcantra trim and power driver’s seat.

The 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine upgrades to common rail technology.

Performance isn’t startling, but with 320Nm of torque, mid-range response is solid. The DSG shifts promptly and is a welcome improvement over the manual box in city traffic. Tidy, secure handling and responsive steering remain Scout virtues.

Skoda’s all-wheel-drive wagon is better suited to all-road use than scouting into the rough stuff.
