Ssangyong Actyon Sports 4WD Ute (2007)

by John Ewing,reviewed October 2007

The Actyon Sports dual cab replaces the superseded Musso ute.
Buyers get an airconditioned, turbo-diesel, 4WD ute at a budget price.

The dual-cab body sits atop a traditional ladder chassis, with the style-side tub featuring a plastic liner as standard. Ssangyong offers optional aluminium or steel tray-backs.

The 2.0-litre turbo-diesel does a reasonable job, given its small capacity. The four-speed auto we drove provided acceptably smooth shifts, however there’s no tiptronic shift.

The Actyon’s ride feels quite jittery, while steering and handling lack finesse, even by light commercial standards. Inside there’s good space, especially for rear passengers, who also get better seating than many dual-cabs offer.

A part-time 4WD system, including low range, gives the Actyon some honest ability off-road.
