Suzuki Swift Sport 1.6 5 door Hatch (2007)
by John Ewing,reviewed February 2007
The bright yellow war paint and standard body kit on the flea-sized Swift Sport test car certainly made it stand out, especially to other Swift owners.
At $23 990, it’s a $6000 stretch over a Swift S, but still cheaper than rivals.
Sports upgrades include a modified, bigger capacity, high-compression engine delivering more power and torque. There’s also a sports exhaust with dual outlets.
The revvy little Suzuki is brisk without being startling. At highway speeds, the engine sounds busy, making a six-speed gearbox look desirable, instead of the close-ratio five-speed.
Under-body stiffening and sports suspension endow the Sport with a firm ride, good grip and nimbleness, making it fun to drive on a twisty road.
The seating position is awkward without reach adjustment, and there’s no spare wheel, just a sealant kit.
For
Sporty ride and handling, willing engine
Against
No spare tyre, limited seating adjustment
