Toyota Camry Hybrid Luxury (2010)
by John Ewing,reviewed June 2010
It’s not the most fuel efficient car or lowest emitter of CO2 on our market, but for a larger car, emissions and fuel consumption impress.
But the substantial additional purchase price of the Hybrid over other Camry models will take a long time to amortise through fuel savings.
Toyota’s synergy drive, which combines a petrol engine with electric power, delivers more than adequate performance without being startling. In performance terms, it outguns its ‘normal’ petrol sibling.
Hybrid offers a comfortable ride plus predictable and secure handling. We didn’t like the regenerative brakes though, which lack pedal feel and progression. Boot space has been eaten into (146 litres less by Toyota’s numbers) by the hybrid battery system which carries an 8 year or 160,000km warranty.
