Initially they traded as Amoco Big Wheels, until BP bought Amoco and Big Wheels merged with Tyrepower, becoming BP-Tyrepower. The business then moved up the road in 1990 to its current site in Blackwater on the Capricorn Hwy. They changed to Bridgestone in 1993 and the trading name of Hansens Tyre and Mechanical was adopted.
In 2003 Hansens bought a business in Emerald which also trades under Hansens Tyre and Mechanical. Both locations are RACQ service providers for the towns and surrounding areas, and part of the RACQ Approved Automotive Repairer network.
From 1996 until 2004 they owned and operated Beagles Pizza in Blackwater as well as other enterprises over the years, including a building society agency, Battery World and Network Car and Truck Rentals.
In 2010, Hansen's Tyre and Mechanical spread it's wings and expanded their business by opening a new store in Mackay, making their services and quality accessible more widely across Central Queensland. As well as the new store, Hansen's is the new RACQ contractor and approved repairer, partnering with RACQ into the future.
Over the past 26 years, Hansens Tyre and Mechanical have employed and trained many apprentices and trainees, and provided support to the community through sponsorship and other donations. Today they employ a team of close to thirty full-time employees across both store sites.
Hansens Tyre and Mechanical aims to provide customers with a One-Stop-Shop for all their motoring needs, including tyres, servicing, repairs, roadworthies, windscreens, RACQ services, batteries, towing, SP tools, and 4x4 parts and accessories.
They look forward to their next 25 years in business striving to find new and innovative ways to provide the best possible service for the motoring public in Mackay, Emerald and the neighbouring areas.
