The University of Queensland COVID-19 vaccine appeal

At RACQ, we want to do all we can to protect Queenslanders against outbreaks of coronavirus now and into the future, and one way we’re able to achieve this is by supporting leading-edge research in our own state.

The University of Queensland (UQ) has reached out to us and our members to help fund its efforts to fast-track the development of a COVID-19 vaccine, a project which has the potential to change lives around the world.

We’re pleased to be able to support UQ’s fundraising appeal with an initial donation of $100,000. This has been made possible through the cancellation of several of our community events this year, including RACQ MotorFest.

It gives us great pride to not let this money sit idly and instead put it towards helping protect our community.

Whilst many people across Queensland are doing it tough, we also recognise there are many members who would like to personally support the search for a global vaccine and every donation, no matter how small, will help advance this important project.

What this will mean for UQ

UQ is the only Australian organisation tasked by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) to fast-track the development of a vaccine for COVID-19. The university is now seeking donations to help reduce the timeline for an effective vaccine and the research team has created its first vaccine candidate in the laboratory.
