How does a lithium battery charge faster?

Lithium batteries have a lower internal resistance (i.e. a smaller voltage tolerance). This lower resistance allows for faster charging than deep cycle batteries are capable of. Simply stated, the charger doesn't have to work as hard to charge the battery and are less likely to overcharge.
