Setting up direct debits
How does direct debit work?When you use direct debit, your annual renewal fee is deducted from your credit card account or nominated bank account on your renewal date, or the first business day thereafter.
You will be sent your renewal notice approximately 4-6 weeks before your renewal date. This notice will remind you that you’ve set up a direct debit and no action is required from you.
How do I set up a direct debit to pay for an RACQ product or service?
Setting up a direct debit with a credit cardYou can set up a direct debit from your credit card by calling RACQ on 13 1905 or visiting your nearest RACQ store. Make sure you have your membership card and credit card details ready when you contact us. Do not send credit card details via email. No forms are required for setting up direct debit with a credit card. Once your direct debit is set up, we’ll send you confirmation for your records.
Setting up a direct debit with a nominated bank accountIf you wish to nominate a bank account for your direct debit, you’ll need to have a cheque or savings account with a bank, building society, or credit union. Please contact your financial institution to make sure that your account has this facility. You will need to complete a direct debit request form, then sign and return it to your nearest RACQ store or post the form to us. RACQ must receive a completed, original and signed form. Once your direct debit is set up, we’ll send you confirmation for your records.
Why do I need to fill in a form for a direct debit using a bank account and not for a direct debit using a credit card?The Australian Payments Clearing Association Limited (APCA) requires a form to be completed for all direct debit requests for bank accounts using the Bulk Electronic Clearing System (BECS) in Australia. There are four instances where APCA has advised that a form is not required (e.g. insurance premiums for ongoing insurance contracts), however RACQ Roadside Assistance or Lifestyle are not one of these exceptions.
Does the name on the bank account or credit card I use for my direct debit need to match the name that the RACQ Roadside Assistance or Lifestyle package is in?Yes, the account holder name must match the name on your RACQ Roadside Assistance or Lifestyle package. If your RACQ Roadside Assistance or Lifestyle package is in joint names, the bank account or credit card name must match at least one of the names on your RACQ Roadside Assistance or Lifestyle package.
Does it cost anything to use direct debit to pay for RACQ products and services?RACQ doesn’t charge any additional costs for you to pay your renewal using direct debit. We suggest you contact your bank, building society, credit union, or credit card authority regarding any possible charges they may apply.
How does RACQ handle my private information when I submit a direct debit request?The information that you provide on the direct debit request will only be used by RACQ for the purpose intended. RACQ will take reasonable precautions to maintain the confidentiality of your records and account details in accordance with our Privacy Statement(LINK).
Managing your direct debits
How do I change or cancel a direct debit for an RACQ product or service?You can cancel your direct debit by calling us on 13 1905 at any time.
What happens if there isn’t enough money in my account to process my direct debit?Your financial institution may choose to dishonour the direct debit request if funds aren’t available in your nominated account. If this occurs, we’ll write to you and may reattempt the direct debit within 10 days depending on the financial institution’s dishonour reason. We suggest you contact your financial institution for a list of fees for your account.
Can I combine a direct debit for RACQ Roadside Assistance/Lifestyle and RACQ Insurance?No, these payments need to be arranged separately. Call us on 13 1905 at any time and we can help you set up these facilities.
Can I make my direct debit for RACQ Roadside Assistance or Lifestyle a monthly payment instead of an annual payment?No, only annual direct debit for renewing your RACQ Roadside Assistance or Lifestyle is currently available.
