Step 1: Check your insurance policy

Step 2: Collect the required information

  • Your RACQ policy number
  • Your vehicle registration number, make and model - and that of anyone else involved
  • The date and details of the incident
  • A Police Report Number (if applicable)
  • The drivers licence number, expiry, type and class
  • Residential address of you and anyone else involved in the incident
  • Contact details of any witnesses or other people involved
  • Details of any towing company used
  • Your paid invoices

  • If an insurance assessment is necessary:
    • We'll get you booked into one of our RACQ Selected Repairers from our extensive network to help get you back on the road sooner - and their repairs come with a lifetime guarantee.
  • If your vehicle incident happened more than 100km from home:
    • You may also be able to claim through Aussie Assist (available to Comprehensive Car, Unique Car and some Fleet and Small Business Car Insurances).
  • If your boat has been involved in an accident on the water:
    • You should file a Marine Incident Report with Maritime Safety Queensland within 48 hours.
  • If you or any other person has been injured in a motor accident:
    • You may be able to make a Compulsory Third Party (CTP) claim.

Step 2: Collect the required information

  • Your RACQ policy number
  • The date and details of the incident
  • A Police Report Number (if applicable)
  • Details of any damaged property or items that have been lost or stolen
  • Proof of ownership of any damaged or stolen property (e.g. receipts, invoices or photographs)  
  • A damage report and quote for repairs of the damage
  • Samples of damaged items such as carpet, blinds or rugs (only if it is safe to do so)
  • Contact details of any witnesses or other people involved
  • Your paid invoices
  • Any repair or replacement quotes for your damaged property
  • If you have damaged contents  creating a health hazard, please take photos and keep a small sample of any damaged carpet

  • If an assessment  is required:
    • Our team will arrange for an assessor and/or building consultant to visit your home and asses your loss.  Once your loss has been assessed and your claim accepted we may authorise repairs to be completed and/or authorise the replacement of your items through our preferred suppliers (this may be in the form of a gift card).  If you have your own quote please advise RACQ at the time of lodgement
  • If you have been affected by a storm or flood:
  • If something is causing or threatening to damage your home and is urgent, please all the SES on 132 500, otherwise call RACQ Home Assistance who may be able to assist you for common home incidents.

Step 3: Collect your documentation

  • For injury or illness claims, a claim form completed by your vet
  • A full treatment history must be provided on your first claim (unless claiming under Tender Loving Care optional benefit or the Emergency Boarding extra benefit).  Requests may be made to update your treatment history during a claims process
  • Original itemised paid invoices and receipts for treatment provided or items/services being claimed

Step 4: Lodge your claim

We understand that making a claim can be a difficult and emotional time and we are here to ensure that you get the assistance you need to make the process as straightforward as possible. If you believe you have suffered a claimable event, we need to be notified within 30 days (or as soon after the event as reasonably possible).
