RACQ has withdrawn from Queensland’s Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Scheme

As previously announced, from 1 October 2023, motorists will no longer be able to nominate RACQ as their CTP insurer.

For more than 20 years, RACQ has been a critical provider of CTP insurance, helping more than 25,000 injured people on our roads. We have built a strong reputation for our claims management and are proud of our industry leading claimant satisfaction.

We would like nothing more than to stay in the scheme and support the 1.2 million Queensland motorists who choose RACQ as their preferred CTP provider.

This change does not affect our other insurance products in any way, or the Club’s commitment to providing Queenslanders with motor and home insurance now and in the future.

    What is changing?

RACQ ceased offering RACQ CTP insurance cover from 1 October 2023 and motorists will no longer be able to nominate RACQ as their CTP insurer.

It’s important to note that all existing RACQ CTP policies remain in place until their next vehicle registration renewal, when motorists will be required to select a new CTP insurer. You don’t have to wait for your renewal to switch insurers, you can do this online at any time prior to your vehicle registration by visiting service.transport.qld.gov.au/changectpinsurance.

    What does CTP insurance cover?
CTP insurance is a mandatory requirement for all motorists in Queensland. It is paid as part of the vehicle registration process and covers the driver’s liability to people injured in a motor vehicle accident. It doesn’t cover the damage caused to or by the motorist’s vehicle – that damage is covered under RACQ Insurance’s suite of motor insurance products which remain unchanged.

What does this mean for RACQ members?

You are not required to take any action regarding existing RACQ Insurance policies you may have.

RACQ CTP insurance is not a membership product, so this will not impact your membership or any multi-policy discounts you may have. Our commitment to providing Queenslanders with motor and home insurance now and in the future remains unchanged.

What does this mean for RACQ CTP policyholders who have a CTP claim?

This decision will not compromise or cause any disruption to RACQ CTP claimants with a claims process underway or who may have a claim in the future. We will continue to provide the same high standard of service to injured claimants that we are known for. If you do have any questions or concerns about your existing claim, please do not hesitate to reach out to your claims manager directly.
