What not to miss at this year’s Ekka

The countdown is on to Queensland's largest annual event.

The Royal Queensland Show is rolling around for another year of classic Queensland entertainment and fun for the whole family.

Better known as the Ekka, this year’s event will kick off from 9-18 August and showcase the best the Sunshine State has to offer.

The RACQ Animal Nursery remains a crowd favourite, where people can spend the day petting rabbits and frolicking with lambs. This year, proceeds from feed will be donated directly to the RACQ Foundation to help Queenslanders get back on their feet during tough times.

Adrenaline junkies shouldn’t miss Sideshow Alley, with more than 100 rides and 380 different showbags for kids and adults alike.

If you have more of a sweet tooth or an inner carnivore to satisfy, try the traditional Ekka favourites of the strawberry sundae and Dagwood Dog.

Other family favourites not to be missed include the Canine and Feline pavilion, Woodchopping and Sawing competitions, animal performances, fireworks displays, livestock and garden expos, food tasting stations, fashion parades, live music and more.

You can also meet the RACQ team at the RACQ Clubhouse and get some freebies for kids and adults alike.

Public transport is your best bet to travel to the Ekka, with trains to and from Exhibition Station in the middle of the Brisbane Showgrounds. There are also dedicated Ekka buses that stop close to entry gates.

For those driving, Secure Parking has teamed with RNA to offer discounted parking at selected car parks near the showgrounds.
