Some must-do camping in the sunshine state.
Camp site

If you happen to have a few days to yourself and no plans in place, Queensland is home to some of the best camping spots in the country. Here are our picks for must-do camping in the sunshine state.

Booloumba Creek

Located just a short drive away from the town of Kenilworth in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Booloumba Creek is a picturesque nook tucked away on the banks of a beautiful creek with four different camping spots to choose from. It’s a stunning part of the world and incredibly peaceful, too. Please note that you will need a four-wheel-drive in order to access the campground as there are several creek crossings on the way.

Teewah Beach/ Double Island Point

If beach camping is your thing, Double Island Point will be absolute heaven for you. There are kilometres of beach front camping spots to choose from, many of which sit behind dunes, protecting you from the elements. If you’re looking to explore the area, the beautiful Rainbow Beach will be the perfect spot to unwind, have a swim or even wet a line. Again, make sure to bring a four-wheel-drive as the sand here can be very soft, enough to bog a normal car.

Somerset Park

Located approximately 90 minutes from Brisbane, Somerset Park lies beneath the beautiful Somerset Dam, the perfect spot to go fishing, boating or swimming. If you love getting out on the water, this campsite will be ideal for your needs. You also have the lower river at your disposal - the perfect spot to fish for some freshwater delicacies.

Broadwater camping, Gold Coast

Another great location for water lovers, the Broadwater tourist park is a popular spot for those who want to get out on the open water and enjoy what the Gold Coast has to offer. The campsite is perfect for jetskiers who have great access to the Southport inlet. If you want to brave the open ocean, half-day fishing tours are available from Southport that will take you to offshore reefs.

Woodgate

The sleepy town of Woodgate is the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate. Situated right on the ocean, it’s the ideal place to go for your daily swim without the massive crowds of other beaches. It’s a peaceful locale filled with character. You’ll want to stay here forever.

Bestbrook Homestead

The Bestbrook homestead is a great place to take your family. There are plenty of fantastic activities to do while you stay, such as horse riding, whip cracking and wagon rides. While the kids are busy with the activities, you can sit back, relax and enjoy the serenity of this beautiful mountainside camping ground.

Thunderbird Park

Another adventure filled campsite is at Thunderbird Park, located at Mount Tambourine. As well as it being a very picturesque camping ground, the camp site offers some excellent activities including laser skirmish, a high ropes course and plenty of walking trails. If you’re not completely walked out, head up to Mount Tambourine where you’ll find more adventures to be had.
