COVIDSafe app vital weapon against coronavirus

RACQ supports Government request for Australians to download COVIDSafe app.

Club members are encouraged to download the contact-tracing app, introduced to slow the spread of COVID-19 and allow life to start returning to normal for Australians.

The COVIDSafe app uses Bluetooth technology on smartphones to speed up the process of identifying those who have come into contact with someone infected with COVID-19.

RACQ’s Paul Turner said the more people who downloaded the app the more effective it would be in protecting the community from COVID-19.

“Our members would be aware of the Government’s request for us all to download the COVIDSafe app to help with tracing of this virus,” Mr Turner said.

“We know from the feedback we’ve received our members want to get back to a normal life as soon as possible, and we need people back in their jobs, and back out in our Queensland communities.

“Therefore, RACQ’s Board, executive and staff are downloading the Government app so we can help with the lifting of restrictions as soon as possible.”

Mr Turner acknowledged there were community concerns with the app surrounding security and privacy but RACQ was satisfied it was safe.

“We’ve been assured by the Federal Government that legislation, expected to be passed in Canberra this month, will protect the privacy of members who download the COVIDsafe app and ensure the appropriate use of the data the app collects, and how it is disposed of once this crisis is over.”
