Cheap camping spots in Queensland

Most campsites charge a nightly rate for their use. For a short weekend trip, this generally isn’t a major expense, but if you’re camping for longer periods of time, or trying to camp near a popular destination, the cost can really add up. Here are some cheap campsites in Queensland.

Springbrook National Park

The Settlement camping area is the only place in Springbrook National Park to camp. It has BBQs, toilets, and drinking water. It’s suitable for tent camping next to your car — no caravans allowed. From the site it’s just a short walk to the top of Purling Brook Falls.

James Sharp Memorial Park

This campsite is 35km west of the Gold Coast and is perfect for families. Basic facilities are available, dogs are allowed, and open fires are permitted. You can even purchase firewood from the manager. The kids will have plenty to entertain them, as there are places to swim, fish, and canoe.

Landsborough park area

This is a great place to spend the night if you’re heading north. It’s right off the Bruce highway, 95km south of Gympie. It’s dog-friendly and provides toilets and drinking water. No bookings are required, but it’s not suitable for large caravans.

Little Yabba Creek picnic area

10km from Kenilworth, there are picnic facilities, as well as several waterholes to swim in at this camp site. There’s also an easily accessible rainforest walk. There’s a 24-hour maximum stay.

Petrie rest area

This is the perfect rest area. Right on the banks of the Mary River, it’s dog-friendly and provides good fishing. There are toilets and BBQs.

Granite Creek rest area

You’ll love camping amongst the towering trees at this free camp spot 63km north of Gin Gin. Campfires and dogs are allowed, and there are good facilities including toilets.

Saunders Beach camping area

This small camping spot is right on the foreshore of Saunders Beach. The location is great, and there are good facilities, including a playground for the kids.
