Day trips from Brisbane

If you’re looking to get out of the city on the weekend, there are plenty of day trip options from Brisbane. Here are five the family can enjoy.

1. Moreton Island

Take the ferry to Moreton Island. Just hop on a ferry from the Port of Brisbane and sit back and relax. The ride takes only 75 minutes. Pack a picnic or BBQ lunch and set up on the beach. Take a stroll along the beachfront, or snorkel around the Tangalooma shipwrecks.

4. Mount Warning

For those who like to exercise when outdoors, why not take a hike up Mount Warning? The 8.8km Summit Walk should take around five hours and, when at the top, you’re rewarded with incredible 360-degree views stretching from the Gold Coast to Byron Bay. Many hikers like to do the hike early to catch the sunrise. Then they head to Byron Bay for coffee, breakfast and a wander around the local markets.

5. Girraween National Park

Drive 260km south-west to the Queensland-NSW border. This is the heart of Queensland’s Granite Belt. Take a few hours to explore Girraween National Park, then meander around the area’s food and wine trail. You’ll discover incredible fresh produce, fine food, cheese factories and wineries. Stock up on the fresh local produce and a case or two for the cellar. You can do this in a day trip but you'll probably find that you want to stay longer.
