Global Fiesta celebrates Brisbane's multicultural heritage

Carnival of cuisine and culture comes to Brisbane.

While international travel remains off the cards, the rich flavours of global cuisines will come to Brisbane for the Regional Flavours Global Fiesta.

Held on 16-17 October, the second instalment of the Regional Flavours series will bring food and drink market stalls, cooking demonstrations, live music and cultural performances to South Bank.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said Regional Flavours’ Global Fiesta would celebrate Brisbane’s rich multicultural community and encourage locals to play tourist in their own backyard.

“A trip to South Bank Parklands during the Regional Flavours’ Global Fiesta weekend offers people a taste of what they’re not able experience right now while international travel isn’t an option,” Cr Schrinner said.

“The event has an absolute smorgasbord of events on offer that celebrate Brisbane’s rich culture.

“Regional Flavours attracts hundreds of locals because of its tantalising menu of roving entertainment, immersive performances and a colourful street party as well as talented local chefs serving up some of the best international cuisine and cooking demonstrations.”

The World Stage will feature cooking demonstrations from renowned Brisbane chefs Josh Lopez and Louis Tikaram, Latin chef Alejandra Utrera and Indigenous Australian chef Aunty Dale Chapman, who will celebrate their heritage through cuisine.

The Destination Stage will kick off a stellar line-up of international entertainment with a traditional Aboriginal cultural performance from Nunukul Yuggera, Japanese drumming, New Orleans jazz and more featuring across the weekend.

Among the musical entertainment will be a world of performances including traditional dances from Polynesia, China and Bolivia as well as interactive Cuban dancing and a curated selection of roving entertainment.

The festival Marketplace will take up residency across Little Stanley Street and the surrounding lawns, exploring six continents and their abundance of culinary offerings and craft.

Tickets for Global Fiesta are available on the Regional Flavours website.
