New caravan and RV share service arrives in Australia

Innovative share-services continue to reinvent caravan and RV ownership and usage.

There are few better ways to see the vast expanse of Australia than travelling in a motorhome, campervan or caravan. Unfortunately, not everyone has a caravan or RV at their disposal and therefore they miss out on this quintessential Australian experience.

This is where emerging share-services have helped to get more people enjoying caravan experiences. We wrote about the early starters previously and now Camptoo, a company that started in the Netherlands in 2015, has launched in Australia. Camptoo connects those who own a motorhome or caravan, but aren’t using it as often as they’d like, with those who don’t have one but would like to travel Australia.

There are more than 620,000 recreational vehicles in Australia and many are sitting in driveways and storage facilities collecting dust. Camptoo has set up a platform that allows owners to rent out their caravans and RVs to earn a small income. The concept focuses on renting out your caravan, motorhome or camper trailer in a safe and easy way for both owners and travellers.

Vehicle owners don’t have to do anything apart from make their vehicle available. Camptoo looks after advertising of the vehicle, verification of all travellers, manages the secure payment process, collects a security bond and provides all the necessary paperwork from rental agreements to transfer forms. The company also offers customer service and support before, during and after the rental.

Owners have full control and flexibility to whom and when they want to rent out their vehicles and by earning an income from their motorhomes or caravans many owners find they can go on more holidays of their own.

According to Camptoo the average rental period is 10 days, but many vehicles are rented for much longer. The type of renter varies by the type of vehicle. Older, domestic couples might choose a luxurious 2-berth motorhome, while a large family might hire a 6-berth motorhome or large caravan.
