Road tripping the campaign trail

Could this year’s election campaign route be your next road trip?

The 2019 Australia election campaign has taken our politicians to the heartland of each state while also highlighting some hidden road trip gems in the process.

Corangamite (VIC)

The Corangamite seat is home to parts of Geelong and the Bellarine peninsula, which neighbours the famous Mornington Peninsula. The Bellarine Taste Trail is a must-do on your next Victoria road trip, which includes more than 50 food and wine destinations along a carefully-organised driving route.

Braddon (TAS)

Within the electoral seat of Braddon in Tasmania is Devonport, where views of Cradle Mountain can be seen on one side and the Mersey River and Bass Strait coast on the other. Devonport is home to the Spirit of Tasmania ferry dock, which makes it the perfect location to bring your car over from Melbourne for some road tripping along the coast.

Bass (TAS)

Launceston is in the heart of the Bass electoral division and is only an hour drive from Devonport. The quaint Tasmanian town is a stone’s throw from the Tamar Valley, making it the perfect place for food and wine lovers to enjoy the best the state has to offer.

Herbert (QLD)

If you’d rather venture to Australia’s tropical north, Townsville in the seat of Herbert makes a great stop on your Queensland adventure. Road trippers can drive up the pink granite Castle Hill to experience panoramic views of Townsville’s coast, all the way to Magnetic Island.

Boothby (SA)

Adelaide’s seat of Boothby covers the Marino Conservation Park and Marino Rocks Lighthouse which shows off some of the iconic South Australian natural beauty. The park offers walking trails with stunning views over Brighton, Glenelg, the Grange and the lighthouse. Find more great South Australia road trips here.

Solomon (NT)

On the edge of the Northern Territory seat of Solomon is the territory’s capital city, Darwin. Take a break to experience Australia’s rural history and Indigenous culture at Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, then relax on a Darwin Harbour cruise or soak in the Douglas Hot Springs.

Lindsay (NSW)

Travel down to Sydney’s hub of fun, Penrith, in the seat of Lindsay where adrenaline junkies can cable ski, kneeboard and indoor skydive. For those brave enough, Penrith is also home to James Bond style Jetpack Adventures and Wild Ride motorcycle tours
