Why active and happy travellers are choosing Queensland

Queensland has become a global leader in fitness and wellness tourism, with new research showing it to be the perfect destination for a ‘fit-cation’.

The research, commissioned by Tourism Events Queensland, was undertaken by Strategic Facts and polled 3695 domestic and international participants in the state’s endurance events.

The report revealed what motivated endurance-sport athletes and what they thought of endurance events held in Queensland.

Queensland was given the thumps up as Australia’s endurance event capital and ranked as a must-see destination for seasoned and sporty travellers.

The survey found that 68% of respondents believed Queensland stood out from other destinations because of its unique climate and natural assets.

The Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Daintree Rainforest, Heritage-listed National Parks and the Great Barrier Reef were just some of the bucket-list destinations boosting the state’s profile.

Results showed 83% of those surveyed rated endurance events in Queensland as ‘outstanding’.

Respondents described Queenslanders as friendly, welcoming and inclusive, y with more than 85% rating Queensland as safe place to visit.

Queensland’s reputation as an endurance sports capital is paying off, with 69% of interstate and overseas respondents choosing to extend their stay for a holiday post-event and nearly 80% of them rating their holiday highly.

According to the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), wellness tourism will grow from the current $563 billion to $808 billion by 2020 – with Australia ranked number one in the top five destinations for wellness tourism trips.
