RACQ congratulates LNP on election win
The State’s peak motoring body has congratulated Premier-elect David Crisafulli and his team on their election win.
In the lead up to polling day, thousands of Queenslanders voted in RACQ’s State Election Priorities Poll, ranking ‘Fix the Bruce’ as their number one issue, followed by ‘Give us a Fair Go on Fuel’ and ‘Plan and Build for Growth’.
Group CEO David Carter said the Club advocated extensively on these issues and will continue to do so as the LNP establishes its government.
“It was very encouraging to see Mr Crisafulli throwing his support behind RACQ’s push to reinstate an 80/20 funding split between the Federal and State Government for Bruce Highway Funding. We want that to go further with a commitment to work towards a 10-year federal-state funding agreement,” Mr Carter said.
“While we haven’t had a commitment from the LNP to adopt our policy recommendation to cap daily fuel price increases, we will continue advocating to make fuel prices more affordable for Queenslanders and bring an end to unfair and unjustified fuel price hikes.”
Mr Carter said RACQ also welcomed the LNP’s commitment to make 50 cent public transport fares permanent as a measure to combat cost-of-living pressures while increasing public transport use to ease traffic congestion.
“Cheaper fares are a great start but we need continued investment to improve our public transport network as we plan and build for growth across South East Queensland," he said.
“Our priorities also outlined the importance of natural disaster resilience to address insurance affordability, so it’s been pleasing to hear Mr Crisafulli commit to more flood mitigation in Queensland.”
RACQ will continue working closely with the new State Government to advocate on behalf of our more than 1.7 million members to help them move and live more safely, securely and sustainably.
