The Australian Government has released their consultation paper: Cleaner, Cheaper to Run Cars: The Australian New Vehicle Efficiency Standard.

RACQ largely supports the introduction of New Vehicle Efficiency Standard. This reform will increase competition and attract greater numbers of cleaner, safer cars to Queensland will ultimately make motoring more affordable. It is not just about environmental benefits but also the safety and financial benefits for motorists.

While we support the proposed passenger vehicle standard, we have called for changes to the light commercial vehicle (utes and 4WDs) standard. Our changes will ensure regional Queenslanders, and those who required heavier vehicles like utes, are not penalised, but supported in the push to decarbonise transport.
