RACQ calls on Queenslanders to help save 107 lives before Xmas

Queensland is facing a road safety crisis.
More than 300 people lost their lives on Queensland roads last year, and road deaths in 2026 are on track to be even higher.
So far this year 200 people have been killed in crashes, with another 107 expected to die between now (Queensland Road Safety Week) and Christmas Day.
To shine a light on the devastating scale of road trauma in Queensland, RACQ has partnered with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Queensland, SARAH Group, Queensland Walks and the Queensland Trucking Association to launch The 107 campaign during Queensland Road Safety Week.
More than a statistic
At the heart of the campaign is a powerful public installation in Brisbane's King George Square featuring 107 life-sized silhouettes.
Each silhouette represents one person projected to lose their life on Queensland roads between now and Christmas.
Based on statistical projections, the 107 people will likely include:
Males
77
Females
25
Children
5
Road safety statistics can often feel distant or abstract. The 107 campaign aims to change that by transforming a number into something people can see and reflect on.
Every silhouette represents a life, a family and a future that could be lost if nothing changes.
The message is confronting but hopeful: these 107 lives are not lost yet. Every Queenslander has the power to influence the outcome through the choices they make on the road.
Road safety is everyone's responsibility
Every journey on Queensland’s roads is a series of choices.
Whether it's slowing down, putting the phone away, driving sober, avoiding fatigue, wearing a seatbelt or ensuring a vehicle is roadworthy, small decisions can have life-changing consequences.
The 107 campaign is a reminder that every Queenslander has a role to play in helping make our roads safer.
Taking the message across Queensland
While the King George Square activation serves as the visual centrepiece of the campaign, the message extends far beyond Brisbane.
Throughout Queensland Road Safety Week, The 107 campaign will reach communities across the State through social media and various other channels.

Be there for Christmas
The most powerful message behind campaign is also the simplest: the number of people represented by these silhouettes have not yet been lost.
That means the story can still change.
This Queensland Road Safety Week, RACQ is encouraging every Queenslander to commit to safer choices on the road and to have conversations with family and friends about road safety.
Because every life matters and everyone deserves to be there for Christmas.
