What is an IDP?

If you’ll be driving in another country, it’s always a good idea to get an International Driving Permit (IDP) before you head off. An IDP is a translation of your valid Australian drivers licence which carries your identification details in nine languages (English, Spanish, Japanese, Greek, German, Arabic, Russian, Chinese, French) which can be useful in case you need to communicate with foreign authorities. Some rental car companies will require you have an IDP before allowing you to hire a vehicle from them. IDPs are valid for 12 months from the date of issue and are a handy form of photo ID whilst travelling. Get into the driver’s seat and start your holiday the right way with an IDP.

    Use a white background photo that meets Australian passport standards. Bring a printed passport photo if applying in store.

    You must be 18+ with an open or provisional licence and no court restrictions. Ensure details are clear and legible, and up to date. Online applications require you upload scans or photos of both sides of your licence. Bring your licence with you if applying instore.
