Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival turns 30 with massive all-Queensland lineup

Road Trip

The iconic Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival is officially 30 years strong and in true outback style, the community is turning a tough year into a milestone celebration on new dates.

The Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival adventure run promises mud and fun.

After widespread flooding impacted Julia Creek and much of North West Queensland this year, the town is gearing up to welcome visitors back with a huge, home-grown entertainment program for this year’s Dirt n Dust Festival from 29-30 May.

Festival organisers made the decision to move the event from the original dates of 17-19 April after Julia Creek received double its annual rainfall in the first months of 2026.

“The mud might have arrived early in Julia Creek, but the dust will still fly,” said Dirt n Dust President, Kalan Lococo.

“While the dates may have shifted slightly, one thing hasn’t changed for sure, Julia Creek is ready to welcome visitors back with open arms, big skies and the same legendary outback hospitality that has made Dirt n Dust an icon for three decades.”

The full festival program will roll over to the new May dates, including crowd favourites the Dirt n Dust Rodeo, South 32 Adventure Run, Multicom Resources 110th Anniversary Artesian Express Horse Races at the Julia Creek Turf Club, Australia’s Best Butt Competition and live concerts.

All existing tickets will remain valid for the new festival dates. Ticket holders will receive further information including refund options for those unable to attend the rescheduled event.

Visit the Dirt n Dust website for the full festival program and tickets.
