Powertune 4×4 & Car Service Centre, a local family owned business, has been serving the Ipswich region since 1968. Powertune was established in Yamanto by Trevor Kucks who learnt his trade in the RAAF so he could have a career in Motor Racing. After being discharged from the RAAF the workshop was opened with a focus on Dyno Tuning and race engines and there was also strong links to the racing division of Ford. But the general mechanical repairs and servicing for the local Ipswich residents was not forgotten either.

Andrew started his apprenticeship in a local family owned business and has worked in dealerships. He has also spent some time as a teacher of Automotive at the local TAFE before taking over the business in 2002.

Moving ahead to the present time Andrew and his team of dedicated technicians have a large number of years of experience in the Motor Industry.

We service and repair ALL MAKES OF CARS, 4WD’s, light commercial vehicles, small buses, trailers, camp trailers, boat trailers and caravans. We also provide a 4WD Accessories fitting service and are the local Ironman 4×4 dealer. Our 4 Wheel Dyno provides us with state of the art diagnostic capabilities making it more accurate to determine problems with vehicles and tuning safely. We are able to provide a drop off and pick up service within the local area.

We have a large workshop for our trained mechanics and auto electrician to use, with seven hoists, 4 wheel dyno, wheel aligner, air conditioning, brake lathe, injector servicing machine and electronic diagnosis capabilities including our Platetronic testing bay. We have a showroom to display our 4WD accessories with a large range to choose from. We have extensive access to information on all makes and models of vehicles. We offer full mechanical servicing and repairs as well as a full 4WD fitting service for all vehicles. Our focus is on increasing the reliability, functionality and versatility of your vehicle irrespective of how you use it.

What is ADAS Radar and Camera Calibration

Thanks to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), your vehicle has become an increasingly sophisticated piece of equipment, housing tiny camera / sensor / radar / processor technology that is performing a big, big job. These technologies are mainly located in the windscreen, front and rear bumpers and side mirrors. ADAS functions include emergency braking, collision avoidance, lane departure alerts, monitoring of blind spots, pedestrian and vehicle proximity, automatic parking, driver monitoring and plenty more – that’s where ADAS comes in. It’s a family of systems with one aim: to make driving safer, smarter and smoother. Making our roads safer and car travel more comfortable.

There are four main types of ADAS:

• Adaptive (based on the surrounding environment)
• Automated (for functions the driver cannot perform)
• Monitoring (such as traffic, tyre pressure, blind spot)
• Warning

Why you need to calibrate

Like all technologies, ADAS is not infallible! ADAS can lose its effectiveness if any of the cameras / sensors have been moved or bumped – and we are talking millimetres here – or the geometry of the vehicle has been raised or lowered in any way. Sadly you can’t just turn them off and back on again if it is not operating correctly!
So if the cameras / sensors have moved, you may not get a dash warning light, because your ADAS system may think it is still operating correctly.
