RACQ statement in response to ASIC proceedings

The below statement should be attributed to RACQ.
RACQ takes its obligations and responsibilities seriously.
Late last year, we self-reported a matter to ASIC regarding the communication of the annual comparison price on renewal notices for RACQ Insurance policies following a media enquiry. Since then, we have been working openly and transparently with the regulator while also conducting our own internal review covering the period since the comparison price was introduced in 2019.
Through our review we identified that when this change was introduced, the comparison price displayed on the renewal notice was the price that had been offered at the last renewal. For most policy holders (members), this would have been the price they paid. However, where members made changes to their policy at renewal or during the year, these changes were not reflected in their comparison price.
We took steps to provide further clarification in our communications to explain the annual comparison between last year’s premium and what is being offered for the upcoming period. We then updated our system and renewal policies to make this even clearer.
We are disappointed this has happened and apologise to our members as this is not in keeping with our high standards or the experience we strive to offer.
As part of our ongoing Risk Transformation Program our priority is to continue to uplift our risk management practices, processes and systems.
We acknowledge ASIC’s proceedings and will be working through this process to finalise the matter.
