MG introduces 10-year warranty
MG issues challenge to rivals by extending new-car warranty to become the best in Australia.
Chinese car maker MG has thrown down the gauntlet to its rivals by introducing an industry-leading 10-year or 250,000km warranty across its entire new vehicle fleet.
The move means MG now has Australia’s best new car warranty, surpassing the 10-year 200,000km warranty offered by Mitsubishi, with MG backing its warranty regardless of where the car is serviced, where Mitsubishi’s ‘five-plus-five’ extended warranty only applies if the vehicle is serviced at a Mitsubishi dealership.
It's the latest shot in a simmering warranty war that has seen the once-standard three-year 100,000km warranty go the way of the dodo, with many car makers now offering five-year unlimited kilometre warranties.
Some brands, including Kia and previously MG had sought a further point of difference with their seven-year warranty offerings but MG’s latest move pushes into uncharted waters.
Easily missed in the hype around the impressive new 10-year warranty is the fact it introduces a 250,000km limit, whichever comes first, where MG’s previous seven-year warranty came with unlimited kilometres.

The warranty also only applies to MG vehicles purchased for private use, with vehicle used for commercial purposes – such as rideshare vehicles and taxis – retaining the previous seven-year/160,000km warranty.
The news is likely to be particularly welcomed by consumers who are concerned about the battery longevity of MG’s burgeoning hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) range and coincides with the announcement of price cuts on MG’s popular ZS and MG4 EVs.
MG claims the MG ZS Excite is now Australia’s best-priced EV with its $34,990 driveaway pricing Australia-wide for a limited time.
The MG4 EV has also had a price reduction of between $2,000 and $4,000, depending on variant.
MG Motor’s Chief Commercial Officer Giles Belcher said brand confidence was a top concern for new-car buyers.
“If you’re looking for value and peace of mind from a new car purchase, the length and quality of the factory warranty should be as important as the horsepower,” Mr Belcher said.
“We think that our new 10-year warranty for EV, PHEV, Hybrid and petrol range is the best and strongest in market.
“When it comes time for our customers to upgrade their car, we want them to turn to us first.
“We have a stack of great product in market and more on its way, so we want people to try us sooner than later."
