From bold to boho
Look out for these home decorating trends in 2020.

The start of the decade is the perfect time to think about refreshing your home décor.
Vault Interiors Principal Stylist Justine Wilson shares her insights into the latest interior design trends.
Sustainable styling
Ms Wilson said the trend for eco-friendly styling solutions would continue in 2020.
“In 2020, more Australians are going to be looking at ways to reduce their energy consumption, such as installing quality windows with good insulation, and reducing waste by placing emphasis on products that can be repurposed or reused,” Ms Wilson said.
“Reducing carbon footprint, the materials and products we use in our spaces in is becoming increasingly important.”
Try the trend: Hit up your local op shop for vintage pieces.
Byron boho
Ms Wilson said “Byron boho” was inspired by the lifestyle of Byron Bay Instagram influencers.
“This look combined a pared-back boho feel with crisp, white linen armchairs and sofas,” Ms Wilson said.
“The trend also includes large sisal rugs, rattan sideboards and media units and decorated with lots of dried floral-like palm fronds and orchids.
“The colour palette is very relaxed and washed out like the coastal environment.”
Try the trend: White walls with terracotta and olive cushions or a potted olive tree in a rustic stone pot.
Organic spaces
“This is expected to be a big trend in outdoor spaces for 2020,” Ms Wilson said.
“Think organic spaces, include sunken outdoor lounge pits made of concrete, rendered or sand-bagged walls and large handmade tiles, either plain or with a subtle pattern.”
Instead of stand-alone furniture areas, furniture is built into the landscape or designed to be an extension of the building such as large outdoor bench seats, round concrete tables and outdoor kitchens made from rustic-looking rendered walls.
“The organic spaces trend is Mediterranean in origin, so if you have been to the Greek islands or seen pictures, those iconic rounded shapes will give you an idea of the overall look,” Ms Wilson said.
“It’s the perfect look for an alfresco space, giving a luxe resort-style feel to your garden.”
Try the trend: Rendered walls and lush greenery.
Australiana hues
Ms Wilson said cushions, art and accessories would feature aspects of Australiana in 2020.
“We will see colours from the bush, the red desert and the coast,” she said.
“Rusty and earthy tones like orange, red, terracotta, mustard and brown will be popular along with the more coastal tones such as deep-sea green, olive, emerald and navy.
“Popular fabrics will include velvet, linen and woollen fabrics for texture as much as tone.”
Try the trend: Pair a linen table runner with a handmade vase full of native greenery.
Wall art
“Wallpaper has been overlooked in the last few years but large overscale floral prints, Aztec designs and geometric shape designs will be back on trend in 2020,” Ms Wilson said.
“Instead of a feature wall, full rooms are now being done to create a real impactful visual feature – even the ceilings!”
Try the trend: Make bold wallpaper the focus of the room.
