Hang out with wallabies at sunrise near Mackay
Remote Cape Hillsborough is home to some curious locals of the marsupial variety.
If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing wallabies or kangaroos in the wild, you can now do so on a beach while enjoying a magnificent Queensland sunrise.
Mackay Tourism recently launched the Cape Hillsborough Sunrise with the Wallabies Tours. These daily guided tours of the famous wallabies and kangaroos’ sunrise experience will take place at the stunning Cape Hillsborough Beach.
Led by experienced tour guides, the tours will provide visitors to Cape Hillsborough, with informative insights and a guaranteed, unforgettable experience with the Wallabies. Tour participants will be equipped with two-way radio transmitters linked to the tour guide, and will have optimal positioning for photography.
Mackay Tourism General Manager, Tas Webber says “Mackay Tourism operates, not just to market and develop, but to ensure the environmental sustainability of our regions tourism industry. The tours have been designed specifically to manage the interaction between humans and the wallabies and therefore minimise any safety risks.”
Photos of the wallabies on the beach at sunrise have become synonymous with the Mackay region and a big boost for the tourism trade, attracting both local and international visitors.
Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park has recently opened a restaurant and café so visitors can enjoy morning coffees and delicious breakfasts.
Tours can be booked online via www.sunrisewallabytours.com. Cape Hillsborough Sunrise with the Wallabies Tours are $22 for adults, $14 for children and $60 for families. Daily tours commence 30 minutes before sunrise.
